Fall HVAC Tips

Fall HVAC Tips

Well folks, we have survived another hot, Texas summer! Autumn is officially here. As we head into the fall season, the days and nights will bring a cool, welcome relief from the heat.

It’s hard for us Texans to think about winter when the daily temperatures are still in the 90’s. But don’t let these warm autumn days fool you, winter is just a few months away. Now’s the time to prep your heating system so your winter days are warm and cozy. Get your heating system ready for winter with the following tips.

Start Early

Getting an early start on your furnace maintenance can ensure that it is working correctly before you need it. Although you can wait until winter to have your system checked, you may be disappointed to discover that you need a whole system replacement. If this happens, you may be out of a heater for several days or weeks.

Replace Air Filters

Your HVAC system depends on a clean air filter for unobstructed air flow to circulate air throughout your home or business. Be sure to change air filters frequently. Be sure to ask your HVAC specialists if you are unsure about finding the right size filter or how to replace them.

Professional Inspection

The best way to prepare your system for winter is to have a professional, end-of-season tune-up performed. While you can do a lot to prep your unit for winter, an HVAC specialist will thoroughly inspect your system and make sure nothing is leaking, discourage mildew from forming or stop a small problem before it becomes a large one.

Fall HVAC tips

Clear Debris

Be sure to clear away any weeds and foliage, along with grass clippings and leaves that may have grown around your outside HVAC unit.

Check Alarms and Detectors

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are essential devices in keeping you and your family safe. Replace the batteries with new ones before the start of the winter season. Test the batteries monthly.

Check the Thermostat

It is important to check the thermostat to ensure that it is communicating properly with your HVAC system. Now is the perfect time to adjust the thermostat to ensure your comfort as the outdoor temperatures begin to cool. Your air conditioning or heat pump unit won’t have to work so hard and you’ll save money on your heating and cooling bills.
