Ice Maker Issues

The last thing you need is the ice maker to quit working during a busy day. Keeping your unit on a routine maintenance schedule will keep it going for years to come and greatly reduce breakdowns and repairs.

Here are some troubleshooting tips, if you system isn’t working properly:

Bad Taste

Ice that has a bad taste or unpleasant odor can affect the flavor of beverages. This is causes by a dirty filter. Be sure to change the filter at least every 6 months or sooner, depending on the volume of ice used.

Not Making Enough Ice

If your ice maker is not making ice as quickly as normal, check for a frozen line. If lines are frozen, the unit will need to be defrosted. Also, has the temperature of you room changed? If the room is unusually warm, it will take longer for ice to make.

 Not Making Any Ice

If your ice machine quit making ice altogether, first be sure the unit is turned on. Then, make sure the thermostat is set to the correct temperature. If it is still not making ice, check for clogged lines. Lines could be clogged or frozen. If lines are frozen, the unit will need to be defrosted. If still not making ice, you should call the pros.

Leaking Outside

If you see water pooling on the floor near your machine, the unit could be leaking. Verify that the machine is level. Check for damaged pipes. Also, check the filler cup to be sure it is seated correctly.

Leaking Inside

If water is pooling inside the ice machine, it could be caused by a faulty valve. Are the cubes larger than usual? This could be a sign of a faulty valve and can cause the evaporator to become clogged.

Low Water Flow

Smaller than normal ice cubes is a sign that the unit is not getting enough water. Check for a clogged line and verify that the water supply coming into the machine is flowing properly.

Frozen

Your ice machine will freeze up if the water freezes before getting to the ice maker mold. Verify that the temperature is set correctly. If temperature is correct and machine is still freezing up, you should call your repairman.

Strange Noises

If you hear strange noises coming from your ice maker, don’t delay evaluation by a professional. A strange noise is your warning sign that something is wrong with the unit.
